Person on the Street Interviews: Assassination of Charlie Kirk

The latest assignment in my Basic Television Production class was to record a series of interviews on a newsworthy topic that consists of SC State people. The topic of discussion was the recent assassination of American conservative activist, Charlie Kirk and how it has impacted SC State students. Check out my interviews in the video below!

Developing this project has improved my interviewing skills as well as taught me how to operate a news camera and microphone. Also, I worked with a group of hardworking individuals that shared ideas and helpful perspectives when conducting interviews. I hope to continue doing more personal interviews for future projects!

A New Chapter: My Graduation Day

Graduation is often described as both an ending and a beginning, and for me, that statement couldn’t be truer. My high school years were not the best, with dealing with bullying, transferring schools twice, and trying to find myself and what I wanted to do as a career.  As difficult as it was, I still managed to participate in clubs, school events, and maintain a 4.3 G.P.A. Preparing for this moment was more than just a celebration of my hard work—it reflected the support, love, and encouragement I’ve received along the way. Click Here to Listen to My New Chapter in Life.

The entire day itself was filled with excitement, laughter, and even a few tears. My friends and I were still in awe and kept reminiscing about the challenges and growth we experienced. The nervousness I felt that day can never be matched—the ceremony was more beautiful than I ever imagined. However due to my last name being Woodbury, I accidentally fell asleep halfway into the ceremony! Wilson High School is always family to me and the community, so saying goodbye was not easy.

Having both sides of my family gather for this milestone gave me an overwhelming sense of gratitude. They all had a hand in helping me reach this goal and without the love and support, I do not believe that I would have made it to where I am. I was most gracious for the many gifts I received and that fun cookout celebration.

Walking off that stage, diploma in hand, was one of the most intense feelings I have ever felt.  Graduation wasn’t just about me leaving high school or my beloved hometown—it was about me becoming an adult and using the lessons and values I’ve learned as I navigate through college and adulthood. And as I look toward the future, I carry that sense of pride and purpose with me, ready to embrace what’s next.

Fall 2025 First TV Production Project

Journalism major, Jalyn Woodbury gives her brief presentation in her Basic Television Production class at SC State. This is the first assignment we do in class to get some early experience in front of and behind the camera. Learning how to properly set up a camera and create blog posts are a few new things I've learned in this course. Click on the video above to view this video and more content on my newly developed Youtube channel.

Using Premiere Pro, this version has added a "super" showing my name and background music courtesy of Incompetech. The lightning was enhanced to make the visuals brighter and the audio was trimmed.
