Leaving my beloved hometown for the new school has been an experience already! Housing didn’t go quite as planned, and I wasn’t able to move into my dorm until the second week of school. While it was frustrating at first, the actual move-in process turned out to be super quick and smooth. This year, I’m going to give my dorm room a whole new look. I want to decorate it with an aesthetic that feels like me. My new suite mates have moved in as well, and it’s been nice getting to know them. I think this year will be a fun chance to build new connections while balancing all the responsibilities that come with junior year. This semester has felt like a turning point in my journey at SC State. As a junior, I’m finally stepping into the heart of my major—journalism—and taking classes that really line up with what I want to do in the future. It’s exciting (and a little nerve-wracking) to move beyond the general courses and into classes that challenge me to think, write, and create like a true journalist. One thing I’ve already noticed is how helpful my professor is and the importance of news writing in the digital world. As I step into the new year at SC State, one of my biggest goals is to get more involved on campus. The first two years of college were all about adjusting, now I feel like I’m finally in a place where I can take that next step and really make the most of my college experience. I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and participate more, whether that’s showing up to events, taking on leadership roles, or simply meeting new people at activities I might not have gone to before.
A new school year always feels like a fresh start, and beginning my junior year at SC State has me feeling a mix of excitement, determination, and curiosity about what’s ahead. Every year of college brings new challenges and lessons, and I’m ready to embrace them with an open mind. This year, I want to focus on growth—not just academically, but personally too. Most of all, my outlook for this year is rooted in positivity, new experiences, growth, and making junior year one of the most memorable chapters yet.
